Tip for keeping your dog close while walking.
We always want to keep our dogs by our side during walks, never ahead of us. The reason is because we are the pack leader, and therefore our dogs should always be following our lead, and not the other way around.
When we allow our dog to trot ahead of us, we are now telling them that they can make decisions. We want to limit this behavior as much as possible while walking on the leash, and keep them by our side so we can establish our boundaries for them, and not allow them to set the boundaries while we work against them.
Staying consistent with this on walks will allow for a much more enjoyable time for you and your pup. If your dog is pulling, jumping or being reactive during walks and you would like more detailed help, consider booking a live video training consult with us and let us show you how to start fixing the problem.
